Teaching practice - Week 9
Weekly Reflection - 9
Blending Academics, Values, and Cultural Spirit
This week was filled with a variety of meaningful experiences and activities. Monday, September 15, began on a reflective note with the death remembrance function of M. Nandakumar, a former IAS officer and an influential public figure in Kerala. He had served in several key positions, including as the District Collector of Thiruvananthapuram, and was widely respected for his contributions as a writer, motivational speaker, and an expert in astrology and numerology. The program served as a reminder of his inspiring life and dedication to public service.
On Tuesday, I engaged in my regular classroom duties, teaching the subjects allotted to me and interacting with students in the normal course of lessons. Wednesday brought a special event to the school as a blood donation camp was organized, which not only encouraged the noble act of donating blood but also helped spread awareness among students about the importance of social responsibility and helping those in need. Thursday was another regular instructional day, but it gained importance as I conducted a diagnostic test in my class. This assessment provided me with valuable insights into the students’ level of understanding, areas of strength, and the aspects that require more focused attention in the future. On Friday, I conducted a conscientisation program on the theme of value education and character building.
The session was designed to be interactive and engaging, allowing students to reflect on the significance of values, ethics, and moral principles in their personal and academic lives. Alongside these activities, the students remained actively engaged throughout the week in preparations and practice sessions for the upcoming youth festival. The energy and enthusiasm they displayed for cultural events and competitions added vibrancy to the school environment, balancing academics with creative expression and teamwork.
Saturday was a remarkable day at our school as we witnessed the inauguration of the newly constructed building. The event was grand and well-organized, marking a new milestone in the history of our institution.
The Chief Guest of the program was Arya Rajendran, the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, whose presence added great value to the occasion. Antony Raju, the Minister of Transport, also graced the function with his inspiring words. The highlight of the day was the formal inauguration of the new building by V. Sivankutty, the Honourable Minister for Education. The entire school was filled with excitement, and the ceremony was truly memorable. It gave us all a sense of pride and joy to see such esteemed dignitaries in our school premises.
