Learning to Teach: My Experience

            The teaching practice program started on July 16th, 2025, at Government Model Boys HSS, Thycaud. I was so excited and, at the same time, nervous because I was the only person doing teaching practice in the Higher Secondary section.


                  Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram, has a rich history dating back to 1885 when it was established as a normal school for training male teachers by the Travancore government. Initially located where Higher Secondary School. His now, it moved to its current Thycaud location in 1903. The iconic main building, an example of European architecture, was constructed in 1910 during the reign of Maharaja Sree Moolam Thirunal . The school has evolved from a teacher training institution to a prominent higher secondary school and is known for its historical significance and notable alumni. 

                      I reached school at 8:45 am and met the principal, handing over the attendance book. Then, I met Jonny sir, who invited me to the staffroom and assigned me classes to teach. The classes began at 9 o'clock. I was assigned to teach 11 F and 11 G. Throughout the week, I planned to teach Accounting, 2nd module, "Theory Based on Accounting" for both classes. 

                      The children were so enthusiastic and smart. Since the subject was new to the students, they were excited to learn more about it. I took classes with the help of real-life examples and case studies related to the concept. However, the terminology used in the concept was new to the students, making it a challenging task to help them understand. I tried my best to clarify the concept for them. I had one hour each for both divisions F and G. It was a different experience for me.

Teaching practice - Week 2

  Weekly Reflection-2 Enhancing Teaching with Technology This week also went quite well. The teachers in the staffroom were more supportive and friendly. They gave me more information about the nature of classroom teaching and the school atmosphere. Jonny sir shared more informative knowledge about the subject, and Jasmin teacher gave me instructions on how to use the smart board.                  The use of smart boards made the teaching-learning environment more effective and facilitated better understanding for the students. An interactive session can be created using smart boards.
