Teaching practice - Week 5

Weekly Reflection- 5

A week of Learning and Celebrations

This week was quite an eventful week. Everything was going well. I covered my business studies topic assigned by Jasmin teacher and then Johny sir assisted me with a new topic in accountancy - 'Bank Reconciliation Statement'. It was a problem-based paper, which I found challenging. However, I started learning how to approach it.

I usually take classes using a smart board. I prepared a PPT on the topic using Canva, which has many advanced features and is user-friendly. I copied the link to a Word file, transferred it to a pendrive, connected it to the smart board, and then connected my phone's Wi-Fi to the smart board to display the PPT.

On Wednesday, Issac sir observed my class. Unfortunately, I realized I had forgotten my pendrive at home, which made me nervous. I asked sir to wait while I tried to find an alternative solution. I sent the link to the staff room teachers, hoping to borrow their pendrive, but their system was Ubuntu, and the Word file wouldn't open.

I regained my composure and decided to send the link to my Gmail account, intending to open it on the smart board. However, there were network issues that day, and I struggled to get a stable connection. After some time, the network stabilized, and I could access my email, but surprisingly, the Canva link wouldn't open on the smart board.

Feeling helpless, I stood in front of the class, unsure of what to do. Then, sir suggested I proceed without the PPT. I took the class, gave students activities, and they were cooperative and obedient. After the class, Issac sir advised me not to rely entirely on ICT, as even a power failure can disrupt the class.

On August 13th, under the initiative of our school principal and teachers, an Onam Sadhya was served at the school for upper primary, high school, and higher secondary students. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event.Onam Sadhya is a traditional Kerala feast, and it's great that our school celebrated it!

On August 14th, ISRO conducted an exhibition. The chief guests were Dr. A. Rajarajan, the new Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), who assumed the role on August 1, 2025, and film actor Nandhalal Krishnamoorthy. Dr. Rajarajan was a former student of our school.

In the morning session, there were inaugural talks and speeches. I had the opportunity to welcome the chief guests at the principal's office.

The afternoon session featured a quiz, which was interesting. Students were eager to answer questions. Additionally, ISRO provided students with informative books as gifts.
On August 15, 2025, India celebrated its 78th Independence Day, a national holiday commemorating the country's independence from British rule in 1947. This significant day marks the end of the British Raj and the beginning of India's journey as a sovereign nation, achieved through the long and arduous struggle of the Indian Independence Movement.
In our school, we celebrated this momentous occasion with a march past and flag hosting ceremony.
